The house at 311 W. 8th Street has seen many transformations. The original structure, a one-story building with a sleeping loft and a large downstairs area featuring a cooking fireplace, was built in 1849 by Samuel Hanna. An updated design was created in 1861, incorporating additions to the front of the original structure, resulting in a modified Victorian architecture. Features include: 12-foot ceilings, numerous fireplaces, leaded beveled windows, stained glass windows, parlors, sitting rooms, and a formal dining room.
The original structure is presently the kitchen and one upstairs bedroom. The garage still features hardwood floors, a remnant from when it was part of the original structure. The walls of the house range from one to one-and-a-half feet thick.
