Hannah and Hazletts addition

Built: 1875

Style: Italianate

Italianate attributes:

  • Tall, narrow, arched windows with decorative hoods

  • Flat roof with elaborate bracketed cornice

  • Square, vertical massing with modest porch detailing

  • A stately Italianate popular between the 1860s and 1880s.

This home was built in c. 1889 by Patrick Skehan, a grocer who dealt with “groceries, liquors, provisions, glassware, queensware, firearms, and sporting goods.” Secretary of Wright-Rich Cut Glass Company, Hunter S. Richey, and his wife, Lillian W., occupied the home from the early 1900s to the mid-teens. George A. Coburn, director of personnel at Delco-Remy, and his wife, Rita B., resided in the home from the mid-1930s through the 1950s.

The home is an outstanding example of the Italianate style, characterized by tall, round-arched windows capped with decorative moldings and a projecting cornice featuring decorative brackets.
