J Davis Addition

Built 1909-1915

Style: Dutch Colonial Revival

  • Gambrel Roof – double pitched roof (often called barn roof)

  • Flared Eaves and Dormers – curved bell shaped eaves and wide dormers are hallmarks of the Dutch Colonial Revival movements

  • Use of Clapboard siding and brick foundation

  • Entry porch with lattice work

  • Symmetrical Façade with Grouped Windows

  • This home maintains a sense of balance and proportion typical of the colonial revival homes that are influenced by classical design principles.

The Dutch Colonial subtype became especially popular from the 1890 to the 1930’s, offering a fresh take on historic European building traditions.

Charles A. Rawlings built this home in 1915 based on a sketch of a home he saw in France.
